KON Honor Society
The Department of Family and Consumer Studies at the University of Utah sponsors the
Omicron Alpha Delta Chapter of the Kappa Omicron Nu Honor Society. Kappa Omicron Nu
(KON) is an national honor society for Family and Consumer Sciences and is a member
of the Association of College Honor Societies. Kappa Omicron Nu was established in
1990 by the consolidation of Kappa Omicron Phi and Omicron Nu, founded in 1922 and
1912. Both organizations were promoting scholarship, research and leadership, and
the current mission of "empowered leaders through scholarship, research, and leadership”
continues those traditions. Thus, the national organization and chapters prepare scholars
and researchers as leaders for the 21st century.
Kappa Omicron Nu provides not only recognition and honor but also lifelong opportunities for networking, personal growth, and professional growth through education and service. Membership identifies you throughout your life as one who has a distinguished academic record and potential as a professional. Employers recognize Kappa Omicron Nu membership as a mark of excellence and will look to you for leadership.
Members of this chapter of Kappa Omicron Nu will have the opportunity to participate in chapter activities, serve as officers or on committees, and help sponsor educational lectures and programs. When graduating, members will be able to wear the Kappa Omicron Nu honor cords and be recognized in the convocation program.

Membership Eligibility Requirements
Undergraduate Students
- Have officially declared a major in the FCS Department
- Have completed a minimum of 45 semester hours
- Rank in the top 25% of your class
Graduate Students
- Have completed a minimum of 12 semester hours
- Be a student in the Human Development and Social Policy Master’s Program
- Have a minimum of 3.5 cumulative GPA
Cost
A national initiation fee of $69 activates membership and maintains the active undergraduate membership until one year following graduation. Graduate memberships are for one full academic year following the initiation. Members then have the choice of keeping membership active on a yearly basis by paying an annual fee for national and chapter membership. Chapter active membership helps the chapter offer benefits to campus members. Chapter dues are $25.
